Latest Genetic Research & Improved Detoxification

Researchers in America have recently made a
highly-significant discovery, which could explain the
rising incidence of Regressive Autism in all communities
throughout the world. [In some States in the USA there has
been a 4,000 % increase in the incidence of Autism over the
past 10 years]
Some statistics
As you may know, the prevalence of Autism has risen from 1
in 10,000 children in 1970 to 1 in 150 children today – I
have even seen prevalence rates quoted as high as 1 in 20.
You may also know that there is a male : female ratio of 1
: 8 – for every girl affected, there are 8 boys.
You may also know that having one child develop Autism
increases the future risk of other children born to the
same couple by a factor of 10 [ that would make the risk 1
in 15 instead of 1 in 150]
Why is this happening?
One possible explanation is the recent discovery of a
genetic factor (which we have always suspected).
1 in 100 children have a genetically – determined (
inherited ) enzyme deficiency. It is a lack of an enzyme
called
5 - methyl tetra hydro folate – homocysteine methyl
transferase reductase !
abbreviated to MTHTR
A lack of MTHTR means that these children are unable to
detoxify and get rid of bacterial toxins and heavy metals.
– so these accumulate and damage the intestine, brain and
immune system. The effect is cumulative – the more you
have, the worse the problem becomes.
It seems possible therefore that for these ‘at risk’
children, these bacterial toxins and heavy metals is the
‘final straw’ and their immune systems, brain and
intestines are damaged to the point where the classical
signs and symptoms of Autism develop.
What can be done ?
At the present time, genetic testing – called ‘Genomic
studies’ – are only available within the USA but we hope
this will become internationally-available soon. The test
requires a small sample from the inside of the mouth, taken
with a cotton-wool swab on a stick ( Buccal swab). The
sample can be sent to centers in the USA for chromosome
studies to be performed. These are very expensive at the
present time (around $ 4000.00 Australian) but again it is
hoped that the cost will reduce drastically once these
tests are in common use.
Also, there is an improved detoxification method for
promoting excretion of bacterial toxins and heavy metals
which involves giving children a combination of
Folinic acid
Methyl – B 12 ( a variant of Vitamin B12)
Trimethylglycine (TMG), and
Methionine (an amino acid)
- Folinic acid + methyl B12 + TMG comes in a capsule which
contains a powder; and Methionine comes as a powder – both
dissolve in most liquids, so administration is easy.
A word of caution
As yet, there is no miracle cure for Autism and the
response to this latest detoxification programme cannot be
guaranteed in an individual child. As with all other forms
of therapy it is a case of ‘try it and see’.
Heavy metals take a long time (several months) to be
excreted from the body and you should therefore consider at
least a three to four – month trial of this programme.
It is most likely to help those children who have
regressive Autism.
